Praia, March 20 (Inforpress) - The President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, will travel to Portugal and Spain from March 21 to 26 to visit the Cabo Verdean communities in these two countries and contacts with local authorities.
According to a source from the Portuguese Presidency, and in response to a request from the honoree, the President of the Republic will preside over the closing of the "International Colloquium Professor Manuel Sergio: Work and Thought" to be held at the Assembly of the Republic and at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
Still in Lisbon, Jorge Carlos Fonseca will visit the Cova da Moura neighborhood for contacts with the population, mostly from Cabo Verdean origin, and the headquarters of the Moinho da Juventude Cultural Association, where the Cabo Verdean statesman will participate, among several activities, in an evocation to the late Eduardo Pontes, founder of this association, which has more than 30 years of existence, and recognized social activist and defender of Cabo Verdean culture in Portugal.
Also in the President of the Republic agenda is a visit to Cabo Verdean pacients who continue their medical treatment in Portugal and who live in three pensions at the downtown Lisbon.
Jorge Carlos Fonseca also visits Spain for a meeting with the Cabo Verdean community living in the Autonomous Region of Galicia, in the north-west of the country (Burela, A Coruña, Bembibre and Ponferrada). It is a community consisting mostly of fishing families from the Santiago island settled in the region for more than 30 years.
